"That's how a police contact should be. Constitutional. He didn't ask for our ID, just got a call, wanted to make sure we were alright. The police are here to serve us."
Two young Americans walking from Denver, Colorado to Washington, DC to protest "Christian support of the war" recently experienced an unexpectedly normal encounter with an American law enforcement officer.

While in Effingham, Illinois staging a Guantanamo-flavored protest in front of a government building, someone called the police to complain.

It was no big deal and handled appropriately by authorities, as captured in this rare video where tazers aren't being used:
