Mantracker is Fake, Part Two: Insider Photos of Camera Crews and Equipment

These previously unreleased photos provide unprecedented insight into how the OLN TV show Mantracker is really filmed: stationary camera set-ups and scene-acting by all players involved. From one insider:
"A typical day on set includes the "prey" standing around waiting for the camera setups to be complete, then executing pre-planned scenes. Hike through the forest with crew, find a new location, setup cameras, bring in the "prey" and yell Action! and you have your show."

All of these pictures could have come from the filming that occurs after the chase has ended. It proves nothing.

Dennis'much to do about nothing blog said...

BPC - did you happen to see or read a report that Mantracker has been hired by the Military to provide some instructions on finding people etc.

Cheers

Hi there,

Looks like I'm not the first to stumble on this site but I am also one of the prey for Season 6. I can also attest to the fact that we film the chase in real time with no limitations and no preset outcome etc. We do however, as has already been posted here, spend a day refilming scenarios that actually happened on the chase but for which no good footage was obtained. So to that extent, yes, there is some staging but it is in the spirit of the actual chase and events that happened but weren't well captured for a TV show.

I would imagine it would be quite hard to have all us amateurs "faking" it as we are not actors and it would make for one terrible show if we were all faking it!

C'mon people, DEFINE REAL and DEFINE FAKE. this whole argument is just a semantic issue.
i enjoy the show. it's educational. i've learned things from this show about pursuit, evasion, psychology, survival and athletics.

Fake or only semi fake, the things mantracker shows on there are pretty cool.

Where are the pictures with prey and trackers together in a set-up?

Would make this more convincing since there has to be camera people around or you wouldn't have.

We see camera shots for probably 40 minutes or less and seems the chase takes 36 hours - so of course there are set-up shots for prey & trackers.

To Bulletproof...why don't you talk about your lack of journalistic skills and how in Vancouver you're considered a joke. Funny no one in the city takes you the least bit serious. From someone who has read your crap you tried to pass off as skilled writing.

Dude, you are a total idiot. First off, these are publicity shots that were released BY THE SHOW THEMSELVES and have been on the Internet for a few years. They are NOT "insider" photos. Also, who is this "insider" you quoted above? Did it just come from your imagination?
It is NO SECRET that they do re-creations of some sequences, like the prey running up a hill, jumping, etc. for creative effect. The chase is authentic but like ANY TV SHOW they want great shots that look good on TV. All reality shows are like this but not all are authentic like this one.

well said, the show is about the chase and the skill of the tracker, no need for any fakery, don't compare this show to other so called reality shows, one of the few real shows on tv.

I'm 56 years old and I could leave mantracker with nothing to track (if the show actually let me.) The "prey" can't possibly be THAT stupid.....? Can they?

It wouldn't be a show if they couldn't find the people.

Funny how the OP fails to provide a source for these supposedly damning quotes. Oh right, that's because he pulled them out of his ass!

Ultimately folks, it is entertainment. The show does not intend to be educational but presents drama, some of which is real and some recreated to enhance the dramatic effect. Simple. Another example...Amazing Race.

I bet he couldn't find John Cena!

This blog is fake. Mr. Bulletproofcourier, I have never met you and, therefore, you are not real. I believe there is a computer typing your opinions for you because you cannot develop them on your own. I have pictures that prove my opinion, therefore it is fact. Good day sir.

I hear Mantracker is a hit with the gays. Evidently Mantracker can follow a brown skid mark to the promised land.

Anonymous said...

ya... why would this idiot start this post to begin with? did he not make it on the show, did he get caught by mantracker and has a hard-on to get back at him? it's common knowledge to anyone who watches that they take shots after the fact to fill the void. the chase is 100% real...but imagine how much down time (boring tv footage) comes out of this. the chance of the crew actually obtaining all those crucial moments is slim, so they direct mantracker or the prey to run around after the show concludes, film some footsteps, horse running etc. this qualifies as authentic tv and its too bad that someone had to come online to slander it.

Anonymous said...

hahaha .. you're a idiot if you think this is authentic! How hard is it to track in open country or terrain that funnels the runners down to the easy trails? you tv watching experts are morons. haha. smd

did anyone actually google the show about production?

The show's typical production schedule has Grant arriving at the location on a Sunday; on Monday morning, the producer and cinematographer travel to the site with the Prey for pre-chase interviews, learn the Prey's strategy, and to shoot background shots. The Prey never meet Mantracker until they are caught or make it to the finish line, whichever happens first. Mantracker and the Sidekick are on horseback, and often finish the pursuit by galloping to the prey location.
The hunt starts on Tuesday and lasts for 36 consecutive hours. Scenes need to be re-shot for dramatic effect, after the race. This never changes the race's outcome but is to capture wide-angle shots and get better footage. Each episode is edited immediately, awaiting the season run on OLN.[3]
In past interviews, Grant has indicated that the camera crew has him stop to prove where he sees tracks, and also has at times sent out false Prey and production staff to prevent him from just looking for the actual camera crew. Additionally, the Prey's camera crew often change footwear, and are expert woodsmen who often mask their presence in various ways.[4]

Honestly, you don't deserve to call yourself a journalist. Your lack of any credible sources and blatantly opinion-fueled rants is laughable at best. It only took me a minute or so to realize that you can't be taken seriously.

Oh, and I'm sure Mantracker couldn't catch any of you, because you're all so incredibly elusive. I didn't know 56 year-old ninjas used the internet.

You made up all of those quotes. What the hell man? In an attempt to try to prove something is fake you lied and gave us fake "facts".

All you have is a hunch that this show is staged so you throw the gauntlet of BS at us. How do you call yourself a journalist with no credible sources and forged quotes. Get over yourself!

Again, as Discovery Communications has said, those shots that look so improbable are reenacted after the chase and then spliced in, but those scenes actually happened. Same with a lot of reality TV. The spliced scenes are like Untold Stories of the ER, the cases are real, but through the use of reenactments, it can be made for TV. Your journalistic integrity is negative at this point.

To bulletproofcourier: The only way you can tell if the show is fake is to go and experience the chase by yourself. That way, you have a first hand information not just assumptions. Why don't do apply as a prey and write a story about it after the chase.

If Mantracker were real, they would be shot, tortured or killed.

You might like to know that Cartoons, movies and soaps are also not real.

Why cant they just tell mantracker to watch his language instead of letting himswear profusely and tell us we dont have to watch it if we dont want to.

I'm sure by now if the show was totaly fake someone (the prey) would have said something to someone, like family or friends for example. This info would travel like wild fire to the publics ear. Oh wait, I must be wrong.PEOPLE DON'T GOSSIP ABOUT TV SHOWS!!!

I love the show ,perfect balance between caught and escaped. your always cheering for the contestants.
My favorite scene is in California when the postal employee stashed the beer in her partners pack without him knowing he lugged it there without knowing

Looking at the show and the comments I believe what we have here is 2 shows. Show 1 is the actual tracking show, show 2 is the filler/camera/scripts afterwards. It always also annoys me when people say the contestants are stupid. Why don't you try what they try. Let me point out something, when your doing any sort of physical activity your capacity for thinking goes down, if you want to try it yourself, go on a treadmill and do some sort of puzzle. Sure parts of the show are really really fake, but the core of it is not.

Keyboard warrior strikes again.

Understand how television works & you'll understand the need for the final day of recreating scenes and static can work. All the bits that look "fake" guess what, they are the bits recreated.

Step away from the keyboard, go outside and do something worthwhile.

Like sign up and write part 3 of this ridiculous blog post

I have personally spoken to Ihor the executive producer on the show and they run the chase through and then re-create it afterwards. Interestingly enough, they seldom even use the footage in the re-creation for all of the action sequences. There's 2 film crew with the prey, 2 with the trackers, and one ATV scout. The cranes are for vanity shots to record dialogue sequences and steady cam scenes for non-pursuit moments in the film. How do I know this? I am currently working with Evertide Games to create an exciting board game for the show. I've had meetings with executive staff and they confirmed what most of you already know. The show is legit.

Anonymous said...

Of course the executive producer would protect his product. You must be stupid to believe this shit, next thing you'll say is you believe everything a politician says. If I went up to you and said I was god and told you Santa Claus was real you would believe that too, because you are a gullible idiot.

lol this is awesome.... but i have yet to see anyone say if you can "borrow" the horse when the mantracker (the young buck, the "real" mantracker wouldn't ditch his horse) abandons his horse for a dash into the trees... i'm just sayin..

Norwegian fan said...

Actually, the "real" mantracker almost lost his horse to female prey in an episode... I love both the old and the new tracker. Great show! No way it is fake.
