Missing Library Books Lead FBI (and me) to James "Whitey" Bulger in Vancouver

April 21, 2010, Vancouver BC.

The FBI is offering a $2 million reward for information leading to the capture of a Most Wanted fugitive who might be hiding out in western Canada, frequenting libraries and bookstores.

Several books about fugitive James "Whitey" Bulger have recently gone missing from public libraries in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, possibly arousing suspicion of FBI agents.

While the FBI remains tight-lipped about evidence, my investigation discovered a trail of missing library books about James "Whitey" Bulger that leads directly to Vancouver Island:

Dec. 15, 2008: Rat Bastards: The life and times of South Boston's most honorable Irish mobster goes missing from Vancouver Central Branch.

June 10, 2009: Brutal: the untold story of my life inside Whitey Bulger's Irish mob goes missing from Vancouver Central Branch.

Dec. 11, 2009: Two copies of Brutal: the untold story of my life inside Whitey Bulger's Irish mob are missing from libraries in Courtenay and Nanaimo, both on Vancouver Island.

Is Bulger a common thief, unable to resist stealing books critical and unflattering about himself? That could be what the FBI is here to find out.

Of course, a trail of missing library books could mean nothing. Or it might be an elaborate ruse by Bulger to throw off authorities while he makes his next move.

Equally likely is that Bulger is an 80-year old fugitive growing weak and tired after being on the run for 15 years, money running out, soon to be caught stuffing books down the front of his old-man pants.
