Remembering Harry Jerome

Scene in Stanley Park: travesty! Someone turned famed Olympic runner Harry Jerome into a Conehead! (click photo to embiggen)

Mr. Jerome was a North Vancouverite who set a total of seven world records in the 1960's, received the Order of Canada in 1970 and was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2001.

He has a track and field meet and a sports centre named after him - where some claim to have seen his ghost running around the track. True or not, he might be rolling over in his grave at the defacement of his statue. But probably not. Decades of seagull poop have no doubt hardened his spirit by now.

Speaking of being pooped, shine up your shoes for the BMO Vancouver Marathon coming Sunday May 3 to Concorde Pacific Place. I've registered to volunteer on the cycle escort team for the event, so stay tuned for more bulletproof coverage of this fun and spectacular adventure.

I'm Ready for my Close-Up, Human

Are cameras food? Apparently not, as this curious critter near Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park finds out upon closer inspection. Or maybe he just liked my aftershave.

Earth Hour Lights Out 2009

While I was out for a stroll tonight during the Earth Hour's lights-out event, I observed participation in my neighborhood was well below 50% this year. However, certain buildings did very well so I snapped a few long exposure pics in the dark and "animated" them with music to make this brief, 30-second montage:

Bubble Bunnies Blowing in the Breeze

Free chocolate and "flogo" helium bubble easter bunnies make a trip to Costco in Vancouver BC even more fun than usual:

Spring Has Sprung Helmetcam

Great spring weather for a Seawall ride in Stanley Park! Started in Coal Harbour and rode counter-clockwise to English Bay. Sped the film up to 2X speed and removed some plain parts to make the playing time under 4 mins. Watch for a few classic bike messenger moves at the beginning, and some beautiful seaside shots in the second half when I reach the south side of Stanley Park:
